It may seem really silly to talk about a nightly beauty routine, but it’s actually really important! Why? Because that’s when your body is able to rest and reverse the days worth of damage. During sleep your body naturally enhances its ability to fight environmental and natural damage. Sleep reduces the stress hormone called cortisol, which is responsible for thinning skin, and discoloration. A good night’s rest can increase the sleep hormone melatonin (which helps with age spots, fine lines, and even skin cancer) and the efficiency of special growth hormones that repair and regenerate collagen-producing cells.
It’s especially important to make sure you are using the right product for before bed time as well as taking proper care of your skin and body! I am very picky about taking care of my skin in my 20’s so I don’t regret it in my 40’s or 50’s.
So what do I do (and use) to maximize my results for brighter, and younger looking skin?
- I always, and I mean always (as in I do not ever) sleep with makeup on. This is so important!! Sleeping with makeup on can clog up your pores. I use my makeup eraser because, all I need is water and my eraser and my makeup comes right off! I do still wash my face with facial soap, but I don’t need to scrub my face so hard to remove all the junk because my eraser does that!
- After cleansing, I use a the Kiehl Ultra Facial Toner. I love this because it’s super gentle on my skin, but it still removes any remaining residue whiles still hydrating my skin!

Last but not least, to make sure you get a good night sleep, avoid any screen time at least 30 minutes before sleep (the light on your computer, or phone sends the wrong signal to your brain, and may actually give you a hard time falling asleep), avoid eating past 8pm, and aim to be consistent on what time you go to sleep and wake up everyday!
