We live in a society that is bombarded continuously to keep up with the Joneses. Always looking for the next best thing, the newest car, the latest bag, shoes, and releases. We forgot what being content with where we are now, or what we have is even like.
I will be the first to admit that being content is easier said than done. Heck, who doesn’t love new and shiny things? But at what cost? The cost of our finances, our families, our joy? The material things, that is all temporary. The high is short, and not so sweet.
Luke 12:15 “… Beware! Gaurd against every kind of greed. Life is not measured by how much you own.”(NLT)
This goes back to my rant a few weeks ago on blogging and my heart behind this blog. This topic is not the first time I say this, and it won’t be the last. Why? Because I take what I get to do very seriously.
I understand my influence goes beyond pretty clothes, styling tips on fashion or beauty. Taking care of the outer appearance is important, but “What you say flows from what is in your heart” (Luke 6:45 NLT). What is inside you matters the most.
Being content matters.
When you take care of whats on the inside, things on the outside one) don’t seem to matter as much and 2) tends to fall in its place.
Let’s first check our hearts, learn to be TRULY content with the season of life we are in. And that’ll be different seasons for everyone. My season is currently sleepless, overtired, dark circles (covered by ALOT of concealer) unshaved legs, dirty hair, and spit up clothes.
But you know what I have learned? Seasons come and go. I don’t want to look back in life and think man, was I an ungrateful lady back all my life. The ungratefulness will eventually wear off on my kids, and I do NOT want ungrateful and entitled kids.
I have also learned that the Joneses may look like they have it all together, but in reality, behind closed doors, it’s a freak show. Ha! Or their grass is greener because they indeed actually take care of it.
We cant compare our beginning to someone’s end; we don’t know how much work X person put in for that shiny new car or the big house.
Make a vow today to yourself, to check your heart daily. Seek a heart of gratitude and contentment. And to water your grass!

Thank you, Amy stopping by and reading!
Well said! I often times have to remind myself to be content. It feels far better being content than having the high of new stuff showing up at the door all the time because that high doesn’t last long.
Great post! Such a good message. I’m in the same season of life, and some days it’s easy to wish for a new season. One with a little more sleep and a little less dark circles under the eyes! But I don’t want to look back and think of how exhausted I am right now, because by that time my babies won’t be babies anymore. Thanks for the words I needed to hear tonight, mama! Wishing you some more sleep & lots of baby snuggles 🙂
Yes mama! Could have not said it better!! Hope sleep is in your near future!! <3
