Faith and Fashion, Can They Mix?
Faith and fashion. Up until about a few weeks ago, I didn't think the two could, or even SHOULD mix. How can you be a Christian and still love external things like clothes and makeup?!
For a long time now, I've been carrying this guilt... how can I have a fashion blog and talk about external things like beauty and fashion and yet claim to love Jesus? It dawned on me a few weeks ago, when people ask what I do, I would be ashamed to say what I do! Especially when the topic was brought up with other believers or my family.
But can you be a Christian and love fashion?
Yes. 100% yes. It took me time to realize this and to be set free from the notion that just because I like clothes and makeup, or even talk about it for work, it doesn't mean I can't serve or love God.
Shouldn't we be concerned with the state of our hearts and not our clothes? Yes, but doesn't our outer appearance reflect what's going on internally, or at least to an extent? I'm not saying we should be obsessed and consumed with how we look all the time. Or to be a slave to needing to look a certain way, or to look "perfect" 24/7. And yes, we are not to be conformed to this world or obsess over worldly things, but I believe this is different.
The same goes for being a mom, just because you're a mom doesn't mean you can't enjoy fashion, or wear heels and dress up. Being a mom should not define your closet, or what you can or can't wear.
Fashion and beauty for me have always been about expressing my creativity. I genuinely love sitting down and playing with makeup, or flipping through a magazine and looking at outfits. And I 100% believe I am doing what I am made to do.
2020 will be a year where I will no longer let the enemy hold me down. I won't be ashamed of what I do, or that I love Jesus and fashion. Instead, I will the holy spirit use my talents and gifts to give glory back to God.
And 2020 is going to a fantastic year. I feel it!
