Game rooms can be a nightmare. It can get cluttered, overwhelming and messy. Today, I am changing that and sharing with you my tips and tricks and game room ideas.
Let’s start off by saying my game room does NOT always look this clean. But because we don’t have a lot of toys and stuff, keeping it tidy is easy and simple.
My tip is to get rid of all of the extra toys. We declutter and give toys away every six months. One, it’s essential for us to teach the boys to give and to share. We have done it so many times that they don’t cry, and genuinely love donating.
And two, it makes cleaning up faster. We have buckets, and the boys know where all the toys go. Because we don’t have tons and tons of toys, cleaning up is easy peasy. We like to add a timer and make it a competition to see who can clean up the fastest.
Like I mentioned the boy’s toys go in buckets. It’s easy for them to know where the toys should go once they are done playing. I once upon a time had these buckets labeled too, but quickly (and I mean VERY quickly) found out I just needed the toys picked up. Screw the labels, haha.
In reality, the boys only end up playing with 20% of the toys they have. So for us, there is no need to have TONS of toys.
^^ just look at that smile!
Let’s talk about our new gallery wall. I used to have old white frames here. The gallery wall was not organized, and so off, the frames were all over the place, and it was one of the walls I desperately wanted to makeover.
I LOVE these photo block prints from Shiner Photo. Printing your favorite photos is easy and can be uploaded from your computer or directly from Instagram. Shiner then prints on high-quality, handmade birchwood blocks. There are also three ways to show them off; you can easily hang them with a thumbtack, stand them up with a peg or use the embedded magnets.
They make hanging the wooden blocks SO EASY (I hung them ALL ALONE and with three kids, HA). They include a hanging grid for clean or smart grouping. Hanging up the blocks took less than ten minutes.
To bring it all together, I choose our customizable 937 home coordinates. I love how it brings it all together and how it compliments the family pictures. The new gallery isn’t overdone, it’s simple, but I feel like it makes the room cozy.
When we started remodeling and making our house a home, we painted just about every dark furniture with chalk paint (we went on a spree). This entertainment center was one of the pieces. We painted it with a white chalk paint and then sanded it down for a distressed look.

This is pretty cool. I would recommend folding a piece of electrical tape over the exposed cardboard edges before applying the labels.
