A Heart of Gratitude

This post is sponsored by Metal Shack. However, all thoughts and opinions are 100% my own.
Having a heart of gratitude in the midst of pain is a very, very hard thing. It’s a constant battle in your mind, an internal war of feelings, thoughts, emotions, anger, and sadness.

The last couple of weeks have been trying for us. We announced we were pregnant, only to find out, that nothing ever developed and I had to have a D&C again (I had to have one back in 2016 before I got pregnant with Liam).

It’s heartbreaking when you pray and believe with so much in you for God to do the supernatural, and for God to heal, or in my case to bring to life.

I 100% believe in the power of prayer, and that God can do the unthinkable, the supernatural. But it doesn’t mean he has to. And sometimes, our prayers don’t get answered how we would have liked, or imagined.

So what do we do when our prayers don’t get answered?

I think it’s okay to go through the process of grief, to be sad, and even angry. But don’t get stuck there.

I’ve talked about the power of your mind (blog post here), but the last few weeks even in the middle of our pain, and sorrow, there has been a shift for me. By keeping my praise and joy, my attitude and perspective have changed.

I decided that the outcome wasn’t going to determine my praise, or steal my joy. My God is still good, he is still sovereign, and just. His mercies are new every morning, and his love for me is never ending!

Was the outcome what I would have wanted? No, but I trust in God’s will. That his promises are true, his plans are not to harm me, but to give me hope and a future.

I have so much to thank God for. I have three healthy boys who are full of life and personality. My family is healthy, I have a roof over my head, a job that I love, two working cars, and so much more.

I will not let the enemy steal my joy or my praises. Like that song “Even when it hurts” says …

Even when it makes no sense to sing
Louder then I’ll sing your praise
I will only sing your praise.

I don’t know what you are personally going through, but I want to encourage you today to keep praising, keep your joy. Keep your eyes focused on God. Find your joy in him. Seek for the peace that surpasses all understanding, and choose to have gratitude even in the midst of pain and sorrow.

I’m sorry to hear about what you’ve been going through. That’s inspiring that you have a grateful attitude, as sometimes when we’re struggling it can be so hard to remember to be grateful for what we already have. Sending love to you and your family. <3
