Personalized hair care is all the rage right now. Which it should totally be! We all have different hair care needs, and I do not believe one shampoo or conditioner can fix everyone’s hair needs. I am 100% behind the idea of a personalized hair care routine, and that’s why I am here to share my Prose Hair Care Review. Let’s jump right in..
I’ve been using Prose for a little over two months, so I feel like I have been able to see results and document any changes. I want to mention again that Prose did send these products out for me to try, but all my thoughts and opinions are 100% my own. Y’all know I am not afraid to come on here and share the good, bad or ugly.
First, what is Prose? As a B Corp certified brand, Prose is a customized hair care brand prioritizing each individual. They create made-to-order formulas and guarantee optimal freshness as none of their products ever sit on a shelf.
To order your customized hair care, you’ll answer an extensive questionnaire like what your hair needs and goals are, your zip code, your lifestyle, and so on. They really get to the nitty-gritty on your hair and lifestyle! Every product at Prose is also free of parabens, sulfates, phthalates, mineral oils, GMOs, and is always cruelty-free. Based on your preferences, they can also make your formula vegan, gluten-free, silicone-free, dye-free, or fragrance-free. P.S.- check out an extensive list of their ingredients along with EWG rating next to each ingredient here.
With that said, I have enjoyed using Prose. My biggest complaint is the price point. BUT- it is personalized hair care, and that does come with a cost. Have I seen changes in my hair? I actually have! Overall my hair has been more manageable, softer, smoother, and A WHOLE lot less frizzy. I can let my hair air dry and not need products to help tame frizz.
Prose Pre-Shampoo Mask
What is it? A mask meant to be used as a treatment before you shampoo.
What does it claim to do? A highly-concentrated mask targets your top hair OR scalp needs. Depending on your formula, Prose offers two types of pre-shampoo masks: a scalp mask to detoxify and rebalance at the roots, and a mask for your lengths to hydrate and repair strands. Usage and frequency will vary for each custom mask, and your mask will help with your specific hair needs.
How much? $38.00 for 8.5 fl oz.
My thoughts: Love the scent and the formula. Overall, I have noticed a HUGE improvement in how soft and smooth my hair feels. The two drawbacks for me are I wish the mask consistency were a bit thicker and based on my formula the instructions tell me to use once every two weeks … which I don’t think is enough.
Prose Cleanse Shampoo
What is it? A gentle, sulfate-free cleanser.
What does it claim to do? Depending on your personal formula, it does everything from rebalancing your roots to adding light hydration.
How much? $25 for 8.5 fl oz.
My thoughts: I have zero complaints about the shampoo. I feel like I get a good deep clean all over without drying out my hair. Again, I love the scent of my Prose products, and the shampoo smells amazing! I have seen a few reviews mentioning that the shampoo and conditioner have left their hair feeling a bit more tangled, and I have not had that problem. But, I did choose to have silicone in the shampoo and conditioner- which makes a difference when washing. Prose claims only to use high-grade silicone. Let’s hope they really do…?
Prose Hydrate Conditioner
What is it? A nourishing moisturizer that will meet all of your hair goals.
What does it claim to do? Restore your strands without ever weighing them down.
How much? $25. for 8.5 fl oz
My thoughts: Again, I love the conditioner, the scent, and I have seen a DRASTIC improvement in my hair. My hair feels more manageable, softer, and even has less frizz! I also really like how I can smell the scent the day after I washed my hair. I also wish the formula to the conditioner was a bit thicker. The formula is a bit too watery in consistency, therefore, I use more then I need to be using for conditioner.
Prose Leave-in Conditioner
What is it? hydrating leave-in mist to detangle and smooth flyaways.
What does it claim to do? This hydrating leave-in mist detangles and smooths flyaways, leaving strands soft, polished, and manageable.
How much? $25.00 for 5.1 fl oz.
My thoughts: I like to use this also as a heat protectant. I also like how the formula isn’t heavy and doesn’t make leave my hair oily or greasy!
Prose Hair Oil
What is it? Used as a treatment before washing or as a finishing product to style.
What does it claim to do? A premium oil that protects strands and smooths away frizz.
How much? $48. for 1.7 fl oz.
My thoughts: I have used this oil both ways, before washing and as a finishing style product. I prefer it as a finishing product; I like the shine that it gives my hair, but, be careful to not use too much! I’m not crazy about the scent in this oil, and I wish it were the same as the other products. The smell isn’t bad; it’s just not a favorite of mine. To be honest- I am not crazy about this oil overall. Out of all the Prose products, this is one I would probably say you can skip out on. If you were to choose a pre-shampoo mask, I would use the mask vs. using the oil as a mask.
Prose Dry Shampoo
What is it? A dry shampoo to help extend and refresh your hairstyle. Note- Bottle is not an aerosol bottle.
What does it claim to do? A translucent, powder dry shampoo that refreshes the roots and extends hairstyles, all while caring for your scalp needs. Prose custom dry shampoo is also free from the following: toxic aerosol gases, nanoparticles, talc, alcohol, fragrance, silicone, phthalates, and GMOs. Like all Prose products, dry shampoo is cruelty-free.
How much? $25.00 for 1.4 fl oz.
My thoughts: I LOVE this dry shampoo, I love how it’s a pump and not aerosol. The pump can get a bit messy, but not a deal-breaker for me. I also do not think it’s a translucent powder, I have dark hair and have to brush and dry my hair with a dryer after to get rid of the residue. What I normally do is apply the dry shampoo and let it sit overnight. When I wake up in the morning I am good to go.
Final thoughts: would I buy Prose again? YES, minus the hair oil. I have noticed a big difference in my hair, and the fact that I can customize my formula just for me and my hair needs is ?.
Thank you so much for stopping by, have a great day and I hope you enjoyed my Prose hair care review!

What scent did you pick? I chose the Botanical and I almost hate it. Just not a fan. Smells perfumey and hair salon fumey.
