Building Your Closet: Spring Wardrobe Essentials

This post is sponsored by Nordstrom and Shopstyle. However, all thoughts and opinions are 100% my own.

I love trends and trendy pieces as much as the next girl, but you can’t build your closet on trendy pieces. The key to building your closet, a wardrobe you will love season after season, is investing in essentials and staples that will last.

When it comes to building your wardrobe, I would say about 80-90% of your clothes need to be essentials or staples that will last, and that will stand the test of time. Items that you can even mix and match with your trendy pieces.

Today I am teaming up with Nordstrom to share a few Spring Wardrobe Essentials and how to wear them. Nordstrom has always been a one-stop-shop for me. From beauty to clothes, to even shoes for the kids, it’s one of our favorite stores here.

Did you know that Nordstrom has in-house clothing brands? Brands such as Halogen, Nordstrom Signature, 1901, and more. Out of Seattle, they inspire with you in mind. Nordstrom also has fantastic services with you become a Nordy member. Free shipping and returns, BOPUS, curbside pickup, to name a few. For more info, make sure to visit here.

Building your closet: Spring Wardrobe Essentials, Tip #1

Bring on the floral print. The more, the better. Bonus points for color! From dresses to tops, there’s nothing that says Spring like floral prints. When wearing a floral piece, I like to keep everything else minimal and let the one-piece do the talking.

Different ways to wear a floral dress like this includes adding a denim jacket for layer, or even a light cardigan paired with a waist belt. You can also dress it down with sneakers.

Never underestimate a good basic. Tanks like this are great to layer, or to wear as is. I would grab your three primary colors- white, black, and beige.

Linen pants are another Spring essential. I have one in white and now black and linen pants- especially in hot, humid locations like Houston, they are a great alternative to jeans.

Building your closet: Spring Wardrobe Essentials, Tip #3

Two words; white dress. It’s crisp, clean, and can also be worn with anything- literally anything. Dress it up with nude heels to elongate your legs, or dress it down with a utility jacket and sneakers. I would go with a shirt dress simply because you’ll have more options to style it differently vs. something a bit more dressy like this dress.

Building your closet: Spring Wardrobe Essentials, Tip #4

Add color. Your closet doesn’t have to scream color, but it’s fun to add color. You can try adding color with a simple slide for a pop of color, or you can go loud and bold.

If you’re not into color again, you can incorporate color in small and fun ways like earrings, or a headband too!
