It’s bizarre actually. I think the real reason is that I was tested GBS + with Liam’s pregnancy and because he came so fast, I wasn’t able to get antibiotics before delivery. So if he gets sick and gets a fever in the first three months of life, he automatically gets sent to the hospital and would get a spinal tap. This gives me anxiety just typing it.
Because of this, I’ve been cautious with every little thing. I feel like Liam is my firstborn. I’m constantly checking on him to see if he has a fever, or if he’s breathing (at least I was before we got the best newborn essential out there, the Owlet). The other night he had a 6-hour stretch, and I seriously freaked out when both Liam and I finally woke up for feeding.
I’m all for technology and making life easier. ESPECIALLY with three kids. I wish I knew about some of the baby products that are out today when I had Jadyn or Colin. It would have made life so much easier and stress-free.
Life is so much more chaotic with three kids too. The house is always crazy, Jadyn and Colin are constantly running around screaming, or playing the T.V. super loud. Hearing Liam over the noise is next to impossible.
I am so grateful for products like the Owlet (which is a newborn essential in my book) that makes parenting a bit easier. Insert my paranoia with Liam here; the Owlet technology allows me to check on Liam from my phone (with its mobile app) day and night. It tracks his heart rate and oxygen levels and notifies me in real-time if something is wrong with Liam. Even over all the madness!
Many of you may have already heard about the Owlet and what it does, but the Owlet has gotten better! The new smart sock 2 has an improved Bluetooth range, up to a 12x (100 feet) increase between the Smart Sock and Base Station. It’s new sock design gives a more secure fit on baby’s feet (which can now also be worn on both feet thanks to the updated fabric). And with the new sock placement, you can get a better accurate reading and less false alarms.
Now I can get a better nights sleep, and rest a bit more during the day knowing that the Owlet is tracking Liam’s heart rate and oxygen levels. And with two older kiddos running around like they are a part of the circus, anything that helps this tired mama rest a bit more gets an A++ in my book.
Have you heard of the Owlet or do you have one for your babe? What is your newborn essential? Share your thoughts below, I would love to hear from you!

What kind of mattress is he sleeping on here? I love the little grey mat! Where can I find it?
You can find mattress details here:https://www.uptownwithellybrown.com/final-thoughts-on-pregnancy-with-my-green-mattress/ and the grey is the mattress sheet, it’s a jersey knit material and I bought from Amazon, it’s from Burt’s Bee.
