3 Easy Ways to Tuck Your Tops
In fashion, shirt tucking can be considered an art form—hang with me here! If you've ever found yourself down a rabbit hole of social media videos showing all the different ways to tuck, tie, and twist a top… you know what I’m talking about. Mind. Blown.
As a Houston wardrobe consultant and personal stylist, one of my favorite tricks to instantly elevate a basic outfit is playing around with how a top is tucked. Whether you’re working with a button-down, graphic tee, or lightweight sweater, a good tuck can add structure, show off your shape, and give a tailored touch—even if the rest of your outfit is casual.
Now, there’s no hard-and-fast rule on how to tuck your shirt, but there are a few do’s and don’ts to keep your look polished instead of bulky. Let’s break down the three easiest ways to tuck your tops—tried and true from my own personal styling and wardrobe makeovers.
half tuck
This is my go-to. The half tuck is where you tuck in just one side of your shirt—usually into jeans or a high-waisted pant. It’s the perfect tuck for shirts that are oversized or have that relaxed “boyfriend” fit. One style tip? Leave the bottom buttons undone on the side you’re tucking to avoid any awkward bulging. The result: effortless, off-duty chic.

front tuck, AKA french tuck
The front tuck, or AKA the french tuck. One of my very favorite tucks, and a great way to define your waist! To create this look, you are simply tucking the entire front side. You can create this tuck with any style top and even graphic tees. Make sure to fold the fabric under so the material doesn't stick out too much.

full tuck
Finally, the classic! I will only do a full tuck if the top is fitted or fits just right. If you try to fully tuck a top that's too oversized, what will happen as you wear the top, the fabric will loosen around the waist and look very unflattering.

So, tell me—do you have a favorite shirt tuck? Have you tried playing around with these in your own wardrobe? I’d love to hear how you’re styling your tops lately!
