Eyelash Extensions 101

I know we are all currently quarantined, and to talk about lashes extensions seem silly. BUT, because I have now tried five different magnetic lashes, and strips I miss my lash girl more than ever. And yes, I am 100% aware that thinking about my lashes is first world problems. It is what it is.

I have gotten eyelash extensions for three years now. I was pregnant with Liam when I started getting lash extensions, and I don't think I will ever NOT get lash extensions. And I want to say that the KEY to keeping your real lashes as healthy as possible and having a great set of extensions is all in the hands of your lash artist. Finding a great lash artist is KEY to making this work, y'all.Overall, I MUCH prefer extensions over lash strips or magnetic lashes. I am not a fan of always having a liner on for the magnetic strips, and I find that most of them don't stay put. As far as the lash glue, I hate having to get the glue all off at the end of the day. So without further ado, here as some of the most FAQ on my lash extensions...

Are you able to get your lashes done while pregnant?

Yes! You can get your lashes done while pregnant; it'll be a bit hard to lay on your back to get them done. What I do is lay on my side with my face facing up, and just move from side to side every 15-20 minutes.

How often do you refill eyelash extensions?

I get them done every three weeks. Any longer and my lashes become spare and not full at all.

Do eyelash extensions hurt?

No! Not at all. You don't feel them!

Are eyelash extensions worth the money?

YES, for me at least. My girl is relatively affordable. Because I also go every three weeks, it ends up being once a month cost for me.

What are the pros of lash extensions?

Getting ready takes half the time, thanks to not having to put on mascara and or false lashes. I also think you don't have to put on so much makeup with them on too. I also enjoy not having to get eyelash glue off my eye every time, gosh I hated that.

What are the cons of lash extensions?

You do have to be careful with how you wash your face, and you have to avoid using oil-based products. Oil-based products can loosen the glue. Overall, you have to be gentle with them, or they will fall off.

How long does it take to get them done?

This depends on who you go to see. My girl did my first set in under an hour and a half. Refills take about 45-50 minutes.

How do you clean your face/ What's the best way to clean them?

I clean my face like I usually would, except I have to be a bit more gentle around my eyes. I use oil-free makeup wipes to remove my eye makeup and liner. Then, I will clean my face as usual. You also want to avoid using hot water (which isn't good for your skin, to begin with). As far as cleaning the actual lashes, you can use a mild facial cleanser (oil-free), and you can brush the lashes out in the shower with a spoolie brush. These brushes are also great to brush them out after a shower. Try to avoid the water hit your lashes directly. Also, avoid getting the eyelash extensions wet for the first 48 hours after having them done, it makes them last longer by allowing the glue to dry and seal FULLY.

Can eyelash extensions ruin your real lashes?

Yes, they can. BUT, I do think you can minimize the damage. A few things I think help is 1) going to someone who knows what they are doing, as in they don't load 15 lashes on your real lash. 2) using a serum to help keep your natural lashes in the best shape. I like using BabeLash Serum.

How do I take the lashes off?

You don't, the only way to take the eyelash extensions off is to go get them removed. You don't want to pull them off or you will ruin your natural lashes.

How long do eyelash extensions last?

2-3 weeks. Maybe 4, depending on how well you take care of them.

What set do you have and what kind of lashes are they?

Linh, normally does the classic set for me. She mixes the lengths to keep them more natural. My lashes are synthetic. Houston beauty and lifestyle blogger Elly from Uptown With Elly Brown shares everything you need to know about eyelash extensions!
