How to Manage Your Time

One thing I get asked a lot is how do I run a business and still manage my home/family, and it’s a good question! Today, I wanted to share 4 KEY tips on how to manage your time efficiently and how to work effectively!

Managing a business, being an entrepreneur, a stay at home mother to 3 kids (one more on the way!), and managing a household is A LOT of work. My days are BUSY. Over the years, I have learned a lot from my mistakes and what NOT to do when it comes to managing my time.

Houston lifestyle blogger Uptown with Elly Brown shares 4 KEY tips on How to Manage Your Time better and work efficiently!

HOW TO MANAGE YOUR TIME; I have learned to delegate.

This was a hard one for me to learn, having to delegate is NOT an easy task for me, because I like to be in control of things. I’m OCD and like things to be done a particular way. But, learning to delegate is CRUCIAL. I cannot do it all, and I cannot do it all alone. Find someone you can trust to do things that you don’t need to do.

HOW TO MANAGE YOUR TIME; I’ve learned to block schedule.

This was another task I learned the hard way. But I finally got smarter and learned that block scheduling helps keep things flowing and less stressful for me. Before, I used to dump my to-do list altogether and do what I could. Now, I not only block my daily tasks, but I also block my days. For example; my weekly calendar (for work) looks like this;

MONDAY -Record videos
TUESDAY- Write posts
WEDNESDAY- Write posts
THURSDAY- Research
FRIDAY – Off Day
SUNDAY- Shoot/ Edit Pictures

Not every day will be perfect, and precisely on schedule, but I aim for this everyday/weekly. This again is a HUGE help for me and it keeps things moving. It’s easy for me to get overwhelmed with my to-do list, and a block schedule keeps me a bit more relaxed in knowing I have specific times or days for specific things I need to get done.

HOW TO MANAGE YOUR TIME; I know my priorities.

Almost every day there is a curveball and something that ends up throwing me in for a loop… that’s life right?! But one thing that helps me is knowing what is HIGH priority, and what can wait. I like to sit down daily to prioritize what is the most important task for that day, and what can wait.

HOW TO MANAGE YOUR TIME; I’ve learned to stop.

Even Jesus took a sabbath, there is power in knowing when to stop. Learning to stop also increases productivity, creativeness, and helps with that overworked mentality. We all need to learn to stop more often. The key to being successful is being able to unplug, unwind, and knowing when to stop.
